Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph” is seeing early success at the weekend box office. The 3D animated picture, which stars John C. Reilly as the voice of Ralph, opened Friday to a $ 13.4 million gross across 2,752 screens.
Directed by Rich Moore, the video game nostalgia flick, has received largely favorable reviews and an A CinemaScore. THR projects the film to end the weekend with a total in the $ 45 million to $ 50 million range, an amount that will help to combat the film’s $ 165 million budget.
Denzel Washington’s “Flight” also saw a strong start to the weekend with an $ 8.2 million opening. It is on pace for a $ 23 million weekend. The Robert Zemeckis drama is playing on a smaller number of screens at 1,800, and, with a $ 31 million budget, has less ground to make up.
In third place was a tie between Ben Affleck’s acclaimed film, “Argo,” and kung fu flick, “The Man With the Iron Fists.” The latter opened Friday with $ 3.1 million in ticket sales. The Quentin Tarantino movie stars RZA and is on pace for a $ 7.6 million weekend.
