Lamar Davenport, 30, her boyfriend, has since been charged with second-degree murder in the death. Police say they found her unresponsive with 16 stab wounds to her body after responding to a call in front of her apartment building on West 162nd Street in Washington Heights. George Hudacko, 65, who saw the 3am attack from his window and called 911, said Davenport was stabbing Hines and screaming:
"Get out, devils. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out."
Witnesses say he was also heard screaming during the attack:

Hines was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Davenport was taken to the New York's Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center to undergo psychological testing before he was questioned by police and charged.
Morgan Freeman said in a statement:
"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."
Friends say they're shocked as the couple and specifically Hines, were the happiest. This is the same granddaughter who in 2012 was romantically linked to Freeman, which he strongly denied those rumors.
