Baltasar Kormakur is in negotiations to helm CASCADE for 20th Century Fox and Scott Free Productions. Set amidst a series of explosions started by a train crash, the film follows a female captain who is mistaken for an enemy combatant and must fight to prove her innocence. The disaster flick, loosely based on the 2003 BBC pseudo-documentary The Day Britain Stopped, was adapted by Kieran Fitzgerald. Ridley Scott, Steve Zaillan, Garrett Basch, and Michael Schaefer are producing and Cate Blanchett has been offered the starring role.
Kormakur directed 2013′s 2 Guns, an action comedy starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as a DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer who find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. He is currently in post on the adventure thriller Everest, which centers on a climbing expedition on Mt. Everest that is devastated by a severe snow storm. Keira Knightley and Jake Gyllenhaal star for Universal.
