So, yesterday my father took my and my little ones to go to the movies… This was a bit random since we haven’t done a family movie outing in a long time, plus I already had plans for my saturday. But seeing that you know we don’t really spend much time together, I decided what the heck and I tagged along with my dad and sibling.
Now, we saw two movies, Bond and another surprised movie I really was not planning to watch flight.
I saw the preview for Flight, and to be honest I really was not interested, I told my self I do want to watch it because it is a Denzel Washington flick, but hmmm I don’t know the previews just seemed kinda bland, I understood the concept of a alcoholic flight pilot but still…
Anyhoo, after watching Skyfall and remembering that the reviews for cloud atlas wasn’t too great, Taken 2 wasn’t really pulling my attention much, and not remembering what other movies were out there. I decided to just go on ahead and give Flight a go.
Actually to be honest I had already settled on watching Taken, my dad saw the theatre for Flight and he kinda pushed to watch it lol.
Lets see where do I start, the movie was fantastic. It was not a all around the park great, but I will get to that. The acting was superb Denzel is Denzel this guy is just great, John Goodman, my goodness shines in every part that he is in, he was quite hilarious in every scene that he was in and I found myself missing him when he was not shown. Don Cheadle did a fantastic job along with Kelly Reilly and Bruce Greenwood. They were an awesome ensemble cast.
I love the feel of the story, and the realness of it, and I like how the story had a understory story of alcohol and drug abuse and dealing with it. Half way through the movie I understood what the real story and message of the movie was. The movie was a sort of how do I say it shining light on the many American’s who deal with substance abuse problem and the problems that they face.
One thing that really stood up to me was the part about the lying, when one has a substance abuse problem, the lies to they used to trick themselves and trick others is amazing.
Anyhoo, the movie was funny when it needed to be, and heart warming when it needed to be, it was a perfect balance of high and low. Also, another thing that was highly noted in the movie was it’s religious concept. Religion played another big part in this movie, from the crash landing of the plan to the many different characters. One character that stood up to me and summed up the religious theme of the film was a man with a rare form of cancer who in a light hearted mood talks about God and the fact of everything happening for a reason. The theme of we are never really in control of things in our life.
Now one thing about the movie that didn’t make it hit home for me was the ending,
I really don’t know it seemed kinda of rush and a little too lets find a nice way to sum up everything. I got the feeling of a lifetime movie ending about drugs and alcohol. Really I am no writer so I am not sure exactly how they could have ended the movie but I thought they could have maybe polished it more a bit, or at least a more smoother transition.
And another question in the movie that no one seems to ask was, whether the drugs actually allowed the pilot to be more focused than he normally would have been allowing him to safely land the plane.
I remember sitting through the movie and the one big question that I asked my self is, since no other pilot were able to safely land the plan the way that Denzel’s character did in the movie would it be safe to assume that the cocaine actually helped?
- Overrall I really liked this movie it was great, I see the movie choices that Denzel is now choosing and honestly they are fantastic, they have and underlying story of faith and honestly.
If you have seen the movie… what did you think about it?
