Safe House
Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller 'Safe House.' Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.
For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town. A "housekeeper" who aspires to be a full-fledged agent, the loyal company man has peen waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When the first and only occupant he's had proves to be the most dangerous man he's ever met, Weston readies for duty.
Tobin Frost has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that CIA's known, the ex-intelligence officer has given up assets and sold military intel to anyone with cash since he turned. From tracing secrets to North Korea to aiding splinter cells, the damage he's done to the U.S. is immeasurable. And he's now back on the reservation with a secret.
As soon as Frost is brought in for debriefing, mercenaries come and tear apart Weston's safe house. Barely escaping, the unlikely partners must discover if their attackers have been sent by terrorists or someone on the inside who will kill anyone standing in the way. Now it's up to Weston to figure out who he can trust before they're both eliminated from the game.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit 'Journey to the Center of the Earth,' the new 3D family adventure 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It's a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret.
Unable to stop him from going, Sean's new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.
John Carter
From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes 'John Carter'–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars. 'John Carter' is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
Act of Valor
An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, 'Act of Valor' stars a group of active-duty U.S. Navy SEALs in a film like no other in Hollywood's history. A fictionalized account of real life Navy SEAL operations, 'Act of Valor' features a gripping story that takes audiences on an adrenaline-fueled, edge-of-their-seat journey.
When a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA operative unexpectedly results in the discovery of an imminent, terrifying global threat, an elite team of highly trained Navy SEALs must immediately embark on a heart-stopping secret operation, the outcome of which will determine the fate of us all.
'Act of Valor' combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure film-showcasing the skills, training and tenacity of the greatest action heroes of them all: real Navy SEALs.
How to Live Forever
Director Mark Wexler embarks on a worldwide trek to investigate just what it means to grow old and what it could mean to really live forever. But whose advice should he take? Does 94-year-old exercise guru Jack LaLanne have all the answers, or does Buster, a 101-year-old chain-smoking, beer-drinking marathoner? What about futurist Ray Kurzweil, a laughter yoga expert, or an elder porn star? Wexler explores the viewpoints of delightfully unusual characters alongside those of health, fitness and life extension experts in this engaging new documentary, which challenges our notions of youth and aging with comic poignancy. Begun as a study in life-extension, 'How To Live Forever' evolves into a thought provoking examination of what truly gives life meaning.
Prairie Love
Love, mistaken identity and miserably cold weather bring together three disparate characters in this dark independent comedy. It's the dead of winter in South Dakota, and a vagrant (Jeremy Clark) driving through the frozen wastes finds a frostbitten man lying in the middle of the road. The vagrant drags the frozen stranger into his pickup truck, and discovers his name is NoDak (Garth Blomberg) and that he's been pursuing a relationship though the mail with a woman (Holly Lynn Ellis) who is about to be released from prison. The vagrant wants a woman in his life, and since the prisoner doesn't know what NoDak looks like, he hatches a plan to take his place. However, it should come as no surprise that things don't go especially smoothly when the vagrant meets his potential lady love. Prairie Love was the first feature film from director Dusty Bias, and was an official selection at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
Machine Gun Preacher
'Machine Gun Preacher' is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior ofhundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler ('300′) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster's ('Monster's Ball,' 'Finding Neverland') moving story of violence and redemption.
When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed–in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.
But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives–and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, 'Machine Gun Preacher' also stars Michelle Monaghan 'Due Date), Kathy Baker ('Cold Mountain'), Madeline Carroll ('Mr. Popper's Penguins'), Academy Award nominated Michael Shannon ('Revolutionary Road') and Souleymane Sy Savane ("Damages").
Animals United
When the African savannah runs dry and water becomes a precious commodity, a courageous meerkat and a laid back lion prepare to go the distance in order to avoid dying of thirst. In seasons past, a single mountain canyon provided enough water for all the creatures in the savannah. But this year, not a drop has fallen. Buffalos and rhinos stand guard over the only watering hole for miles, and if the creatures don't act fast, they will surely perish. Desperate, Billy the meerkat and Socrates the lion set out to find sustenance. Upon crossing paths with a rooster named Charles, the pair learns of a place in the Okavango Delta where the water still flows. But by the time Charles leads them there, the humans have already staked their claim on the small reserve. Meanwhile, local entrepreneur Smith has constructed a dam in order to the precious divert water to his luxury hotel. When Billy and Socrates learn that the hotel is hosting a conference on natural preservation, they call in all of their animal friends in order to teach the thoughtless politicians a thing or two about sharing the land.
American Animal
When Jimmy (Matt D'Elia) finds out his best friend and roommate James (Brendan Fletcher from HBO's "The Pacific") is leaving for a new job in the morning, he sees this as a betrayal of their perfect way of life. Over the course of a night full of drinks, drugs and women, the two men engage in a classic battle of wills as James prepares to enter the real world and Jimmy falls deeper and deeper into his world of isolation and make-believe.
Bad Ass
Decorated Vietnam hero Frank Vega returns home only to get shunned by society leaving him without a job or his high school sweetheart. It's not until forty years later when an incident on a commuter bus (where he protects an elderly black man from a pair of skin heads) makes him a local hero where he's suddenly celebrated once again. But his good fortune suddenly turns for the worse when his best friend Klondike is murdered and the police aren't doing anything about it.
Hit So Hard
When Nirvana burst onto the scene in 1991, the music they played spoke directly to an angry and disenfranchised generation. As grunge took over MTV and radio, the music industry was transformed overnight. But just three years later, the drug-related deaths of several musicians, capped by the suicide of Kurt Cobain, closed the books on an all too brief era. Hit So Hard follows the rise to fame (and the near-fatal fall from it) of Patty Schemel, drummer for Courtney Love's seminal rock band, Hole. Given a Hi-8 video camera just before Hole's infamous Live Through This world tour, Patty captured stunningly intimate footage of the scene that has never been seen… until now. Not just an all-access backstage pass to the music that shaped a generation, Hit So Hard is a harrowing tale of overnight success, the cost of addiction, and ultimately, recovery and redemption.
Exit Strategy
James (Jameel Saleem) gets evicted from his apartment and moves in with his girlfriend of three months Kim (Kimelia Weathers) and quickly discovers she's everything he never wanted in a woman. He enlists best friends Carville (Quiincy "Qdeezy" Harris) and Leona Noelle Balfour), plus high-schooler Scoop (Nick Sinise) and strangers Big Boy and Kevin Hart to find a relationship exit strategy; but for Kim, breaking up just isn't an option.
Tomboy
In 'Tomboy,' filmmaker Celine Sciamma's second feature, a French family with two daughters, 10-year-old Laure (Zoe Heran) and 6-year-old Jeanne (Malonn Levanna), moves to a new suburban neighborhood during the summer holidays. With her Jean Serberg haircut and tomboy ways, Laure is immediately mistaken for a boy by the local kids and decides to pass herself off as "Mikael," a boy like the others but different enough to catch the attention of leader of the pack Lisa (Jeanne Disson) who becomes smitten with him. At home with her parents (Mathieu Demy and Sophie Cattani) and girlie young sister she is Laure, while hanging out with her new pals and girlfriend, she is Mikael. Finding resourceful ways to hide her true self Laure takes advantage of her new identity as if the end of summer would never reveal her unsettling secret. Celine Sciamma brings light and charming touch to this contemporary coming-of-age story, which is also about relationships between children, children and parents, and the even more complicated one between one's heart and body.
