3 out of 5 Stars While I own the original film, I haven't viewed it at this time and decided to watch the remake first because I was in the mood for a more loud and violent action film for some reason, it's rare I admit. The premise isn't anything special and while the acting is pretty solid for the most part, the script and direction is a letdown. Denzel Washington turns in another solid performance, he rarely doesn't, and Travolta fits his role well enough and the rest of the cast is good as well. The filming is overly frantic in places and Scott goes for fast cuts and bigger/louder effects to supplement for the rather limited script. It isn't a terrible film but it certainly isn't anything that special either. I'd suggest a rental.
