Back long ago I used to go to school with a negro fellow name Byrd. This is back before Negroes decided they preferred to be called Black. Byrd was my friend. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to be friends with him, and if he knew he never said anything. when we graduated from school Byrd went into the military right away and gave his life for our country. I went in a year after that.
The civil rights movement was well under way by then and was making real headway. At least that is what I thought. 50 some years later, I heard a black fellow on the TV the other day yell "Black Power!" I wanted to ask him if he knew what year it is. Am I missing something here? Aren't blacks treated as equals now? Where is all this resentment and anger coming from. I realize that rodney king got beaten up and the white cops were found innocent. That started one of Americas' worst riots.
But OJ was acquitted. Went to prison years later for some gangster shit in a motel in Vegas. Fair is fair. If you ask Denzel Washington or Sam Jackson if they are treated equally what would be their response? How about Emmet Smith or Michael Jordan? Jamie Foxx or Hally Berry? How about President Obama? Is there still a racial bias in this country. Oprah became a billionaire in this racially oppressed society! I am confused?
Apparently if things don't go your way and you are a black American, it is ok to still blame racial bias. Now this business recently down in Florida. I don't know if this Zimmerman fellow (white/Hispanic) shot the young black in self defense or not. I have not been privy to the evidence. But everyone acts like it was a hate crime. Could be? I suppose , but isn't everyone jumping to conclusions?
Being treated equally does not mean you can commit crimes and get away with it.
Being punished for a crime is justice, not prejudice. If your black and you are guilty shouldn't you be treated exactly the same as if you were white and guilty?
Now going back to Oprah for a minute. If her new business venture called the OWN Network fails what will be the cause? Is it because I would rather smack my penis with a claw hammer than watch a Dr. Frigging Phil rerun OR is it because I harbor some hidden bias towards Ms Winfrey? Hell, I like Oprah. She seems like a very nice person on TV. Of course, she builds schools in Africa instead of Mississippi. sounds a little like racial bias to me? I'm just saying!
What will it take for the black folks to be happy? A black superman from south central Krypton? Or a black Santa Claus played by James Earl Jones? 50 years ago, Byrd was my friend. Not my black friend. Just my friend. If you insist on making color an issue then it will be an issue.
