Lionsgate-Summit is hell bent on creating some tentpole franchises with their new-found Hunger Games capital, and one of them would appear to be Highlander. A report has surfaced just yesterday that the studio is in talks with Ryan Reynolds to take over the franchise as the title character.
Of course, this is far from a done deal as apparently Reynolds is a bit skittish about the whole thing mostly because he has other offers on his plate. Despite flopping hard in last year's Green Lantern, the actor is still considered to be in high demand as his successful stint in Safe House with Denzel Washington is causing studios to take a second chance on him.
Should Reynolds latch onto Highlander, he would be taking the reins of a series that not only has a history of performing soft at the box office, but also is considered a B-television property. It is this implication that drives some to believe that staying clear of this role would be in the actor's best interest considering it has the potential to be another blockbuster-sized bomb. Stay tuned for more as this story develops.
