The striking feature about Angelina Jolie's chart is that it contains three snakes in the month, day and hour pillars. She is a Yin Metal day self and there is another Yin Metal sitting in the month pillar, which hints at the difficult relationship that she has had with her father Jon Voight. The strongest element in her chart is that of metal. However, as the metal does not present itself in any pattern or relationships, her chart is considered that of a competitive metal chart.
Angelina Jolie's best elements are:
1) Water: the output element drains the competitive metal elements present within the chart.
2) Fire: the power element controls the competitive metal elements present in the chart.
Angelina Jolie's negative elements are:
1) Metal: this signifies more competition for her.
2) Earth: the resource element not only strengthens her self, but also her competitors.
3) Wood: the wealth element becomes a focus of competition amongst the metal rivals.
Angelina Jolie received her first starring role in Hackers in 1995 (Wood Pig) during the troublesome Sheep luck cycle (1991 to 1996). The excessive wealth element present in this period of her life (in the year and also due to the luck cycle combining with her year of birth) suggests the possibility of significant personal stress. While the movie was not successful commercially at the time of release, it has now become a cult classic and Jolie also met her first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller, on the set. They were married in 1996 (Fire Rat), when the Yang Fire of that year combined with her Yin Metal day self.
The Yang Wood luck cycle (1996 to 2001) was also not favourable as it represented the wealth element. However, she had her first breakthrough in 1997 (Fire Ox), when the ox was able to combine with the snakes present in her chart to strengthen her day self. That year, she starred in the television film George Wallace, portraying Cornelia Wallace, the second wife of the Alabama governor, a role that would win her a Golden Globe the following year for Best Supporting Actress in a series, miniseries or television film. Jolie also starred with David Duchovny in the underworld thriller Playing God. On a personal note, she also separated from Jonny Lee Miller that year. In January 1998 (when the energy of the fire ox was still present), HBO premiered the television film Gia, where she played the title role of the ill-fated model Gia Carangi, who died from AIDS in the mid-80s. The role would prove to be another major breakthrough for Jolie, winning her a Golden Globe the following year for Best Actress in a miniseries or television film. In 1998 (Earth Tiger), she also appeared in the ensemble comedy Playing By Heart alongside Sean Connery. 1999 (Earth Rabbit) saw her appearing in the commercial and critical misfire Pushing Tin with John Cusack, Cate Blanchett and Billy Bob Thornton (who would become her second husband). Jolie also appeared in one of her first major box office hits that year, opposite Denzel Washington in the thriller The Bone Collector. In 2000 (Metal Dragon), when the Yang Metal of the year was combined away by the Yin Wood present in the year of her birth, she would win Best Supporting Actress for portraying a sociopathic mental patient in Girl, Interrupted, which was released towards the end of 1999 (Earth Rabbit). Jolie then appeared in her first summer blockbuster Gone In 60 Seconds, which also starred Nicholas Cage. She also married Billy Bob Thornton that year. Their frequent declarations of love and their gestures, such as wearing a vial of each other's blood around their necks made their marriage a focus of the world's media.
The Monkey luck cycle (2001 to 2006) would be more positive, as it contained her output element water. In 2001 (Metal Snake), she starred in the adventure thriller Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, a videogame adaptation that would earn more than US$ 270 million worldwide and turn her into an action star. Filming in Cambodia would also result in her becoming personally aware of humanitarian crises and see her embark on a parallel humanitarian career. The strong metal element towards the end of 2001 saw her appear in the commercial and critical misfire Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. Jolie was also nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Actress for her performances in Tomb Raider and Original Sin. 2002 (Water Horse) saw her appear in the flop comedy Life Or Something Like It opposite Edward Burns, which also earned her another Razzie nomination for Worst Actress. The presence of water, her output and children element that year also saw her adopt her first child Maddox Chivan from an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She separated from Billy Bob Thornton in June 2002, with the divorce finalized the following year (2003 Water Sheep). The positive output element in 2003 saw her reprise her role in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, which made her one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses. However, the sheep in the second half of the year combined with the rabbit in her year pillar to form the negative wealth element wood and her drama about aid workers Beyond Borders (which also starred Clive Owen) was a box office disappointment. 2004 (Wood Monkey) was a busy year for Jolie: she appeared in the serial killer thriller Taking Lives with Ethan Hawke but the movie was a commercial and critical disappointment. She then contributed her voice to animated film A Shark's Tale and made a brief appearance in the science fiction Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow. She ended the year playing the mother of Alexander the Great (played by Colin Farrell) in Oliver Stone's Alexander, which performed well overseas even though it struggled in the US. 2005 (Wood Rooster) would be a dramatic year: in the first half of the year, when the negative wealth element wood was strong, she was portrayed by the media as the reason for the divorce of her co-star Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston. However, as the rooster in the second half of the year combined with the snakes present in her chart, the action movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a worldwide hit. She also adopted her second child Zahara Marley from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
While the Yin Wood luck cycle (2006 to 2011) had its share of successes, it would also be a stressful time for Jolie as she found herself constantly in the media spotlight due to her relationship with Brad Pitt. In 2006 (Fire Dog) she gave birth to daughter Shiloh Nouvel in Swakopmund in Namibia, away from the glare of publicity. Later that year, she would play a supporting role as the wife of Matt Damon's character in Robert de Niro's The Good Shepherd, about the CIA. In 2007 (Fire Pig), the positive fire energy in the first half saw her adopting Pax Thien from an orphange in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She then appeared as Mariane Pearl in the adaptation of Pearl's memoir A Mighty Heart, which detailed her husband Daniel's kidnapping and execution by terrorists in Pakistan. The movie performed badly at the box office and received fair reviews for Jolie's performance as Pearl. 2008 (Earth Rat) was a highly positive year for Jolie: the first half of the year saw the potentially negative Yang Earth combine with the Yin Water in her day pillar and she starred alongside Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy in action movie Wanted, a graphic novel adaptation. It was an international success, grossing more than US 300 million worldwide. She also gave birth to twins, son Knox Leon and daughter Viviene Marcheline. Jolie also provided the voice of Mistress Tigress in the hit animation film Kung Fu Panda and ended the year giving a strong performance in Clint Eastwood's Changeling, for which she earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination. In 2010 (Metal Tiger), when the potentially threatening Yang Metal combined with the Yin Wood present in her year pillar, Jolie's first movie in two years, the action thriller Salt, where she played a CIA agent accused of being a KGB agent, was an international success. However, her next movie, the Tourist, a heist comedy/thriller set in Venice where she starred alongside Johnny Depp, received scathing reviews even though it performed well at the box office. She also received a controversial Best Actress Golden Globe nomination for her performance amidst speculation that it was given to ensure her high profile appearance at the ceremony.
The Rooster luck cycle (2011 to 2016) should see her reach another peak in her career as the rooster combines with the snakes present in her chart to strengthen her day self. In 2011 (Metal Rabbit), she reprised her role as Mistress Tiger in Kung Fu Panda 2, which once again was another box office hit. She also made her directorial debut In The Land Of Milk And Honey, a love story between a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian prisoner of war set during the Balkans War. It was in limited release over in the US but received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film.
Jolie should benefit from the strong water presence in the first half of 2012 (Water Dragon) and 2013 (Water Snake).
