Deadline reports that Adam McKay is now in negotiations to direct and develop the remake of
Uptown Saturday Night with Will Smith and Denzel Washington in the lead roles for Warner Bros.
Smith and Washington have long wanted to work together.
The original comedy from 1974 starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as two guys that are robbed at an illegal nightclub. The two get tough and decide to get their wallets back when they realize one of them had a winning lottery ticket.
McKay will be working with a script from Tim Dowling. The director is working on the sequel to Anchorman, but when he is done with that he will start on Uptown Saturday Night.
