It looks like Adam McKay will be even busier in the coming year. After announcing that Anchorman 2 is a go — set for a 2014 release — The Other Guys director will possibly direct a remake to the 1974 comedy, Uptown Saturday Night.
The original starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Potier as a couple friends who visit a nightclub that gets robbed. It turns out that one of their wallets contained a winning lottery ticket and the duo sets out to get the wallet back. Warner Brothers hopes to cast Will Smith and Denzel Washington in the starring roles, according to Deadline. You can check out the original trailer below.
McKay's comedic pedigree (he's Will Ferrell's writing and producing partner, as well as Funny Or Die partner), along with a strong cast could make this an incredibly satisfying flick. Will Smith has proven that he can bring the funny. Although Denzel is a brilliant actor, I'm not so sure he'll be as funny as his famed Saturday Night Live impersonator Jay Pharoah makes him out to be. Or maybe this will be like when Mark Wahlberg showed his comedic chops with McKay in The Other Guys, which has led him to the upcoming Seth MacFarlane laugher Ted. McKay just seems to have a way to bring out the comedian in everybody.
