Tell us a bit about yourself, where did you grow up and what did you study?

I grew up in Detroit Michigan. I grew up in the city and lived a pretty humble life. I was fortunate to have a drama teacher named Bonnie Shehe who inspired me to join the Thespian society and audition for colleges. I received 3 scholarships and picked the farthest away to find my independence. I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from USIU-SPVA.

How did you land the role of the Black Ranger, Zack Taylor on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show?

I had the right skills at the right time and it paid off at the audition! Martial arts, Acting, Dancing, And Tumbling skills.

The show is now celebrating its 20th anniversary by releasing a whole DVD box collection. How great is that for all Power Ranger fans?

It’s Awesome! It took a long time to get here but I think the fans will loved and continue to share it with their kids!

If you can go back to 1993 knowing what you know now, would you have portrayed Zack Taylor differently?

No I think the character I built was very respectable. I would have put a little more bass in his voice. (laughs)

How did this character help your career?

It was my stepping stone into the professional world of acting. The role made people see me as a lead actor and I was provided many opportunities that I would not have received with out it.

What are some of your favorite roles you would like to play, if you ever had to pick?

I really want to do a romantic comedy! I’m always down for action films as well.

What are the tips to become a successful actor?

Believe you can do anything, and don’t be afraid to fail!

You appeared on hit TV shows like CSI and The Shield, how much experience did you gain?

It’s always great to work with amazing actors. It’s a way to measure yourself. The experience I gained was a feeling of belonging.

You are also a world class/champion salsa dancer. Is that true?

I am a Salsa World Dance Champion. I am Working with a company called SSS4. We are creating a brand of dance shoes and apparel. There are a lot of great things happening in the near future with Walter E Jones and SSS4. I’m excited.

Do you consider dancing a tool you can use in some of your acting roles?

I’m sure there can be opportunities to put the two together. I would enjoy that!

Do you consider dancing a hobby or a second career?

Dancing is just another form of my creative expression and is included as part of my career. I make my living as an artist.
