Born in Miami, to Caridad Corrales and Juan Carlos Mendez, Eva was raised in Cuban-American heritage in Los Angeles. She began acting while at college training under acting Coach Ivana Chubbuck. She eventually developed interest in films and started taking up small roles in movies. She was fairly unknown in the movie circles until she was cast opposite Denzel Washington in ‘Training Day’ in the year 2001.Incidentally Eva has been cast as Denzel Washington’s girlfriend/wife twice, once in the movie ‘Training Day’ and again in ‘Out of Time’ in 2003. She catapulted to fame when she acted in her biggest movie ‘Hitch’, a romantic comedy pairing opposite Will Smith.
Along with acting, Eva is also one of the international spokesperson of the brand Revlon. She is a part of the elite group of actresses and models such as Cindy Crawford, Halle Berry and Julianne Moore among others. She is a supporter and participant in Revlon’s fight against breast cancer.
Besides acting, Eva Mendes loves interior designing and she once quipped that she would have taken up interior designing as a profession if she had not become an actress. Her sophisticated design style and neutral but contemporary look extends to her home and living.
She ranked number 7 on the Maxim magazines’ Hot 100 list in the year 2007. She was previously ranked number 12 in the same magazine in the year 2005. Besides being positioned in the 44th place in FHM magazine’s ‘100 Sexiest Women in the world 2006’ supplement, Eva Mendes also topped the Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100 list of 2010.
She once said, “I know I walk a fine line between being a respected actor and being what they call a sex symbol. It’s a hard one to walk if you want to be known as a real, credible actor.
