The 85th Academy Awards | johndoeanonymous


Many surprising twists were in store for this year’s 85th Academy Awards Oscars winners, and even those in attendance. The biggest surprise of the night was probably Michelle Obama’s video appearance directly from the White House to announce the best picture winner.


There were many Oscars awarded last night, the most noteworthy include Daniel Day-Lewis who won the best actor in a leading role, Academy Award for playing our 16th US President Abraham Lincoln, in the movie Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg which also picked up another Oscar for best Production Design. Other nominations for this category incuded: Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook, Hugh Jackman in Les Miserables, Joaquin Phoenix in The Master, and finally Denzel Washington in Flight.


Also, Jennifer Lawerence picked up her first Oscar for the category Actress in a Leading Role in Silver Linings Playbook which surprised her to the verge of tears. Other nominations for this category included: Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty, Quvenzhane Wallis in Beasts of the Southern Wild, Naomi Watts in The Impossible, and lastly, Emmanuelle Riva in Amour. Another category similar to this one includes best Actress in a Supporting Role, which Anne Hathaway won for her role in Les Miserables. Other nominations for this award include: Amy Adams in The Master, Sally Field in Lincoln, Helen Hunt in The Sessions, and Jacki Weaver in Silver Linings Playbook.


Other winners include Ang Lee director in Life of Pi and also for the same film, Mychael Danna for the category of Music Original Score as well as another Oscar for Visual Effects. William Goldenberg snatched up an Oscar for the category Film Editing for the blockbuster hit Argo. Also being awarded an Oscar was the movie Django Unchained for their Writing in Origional Screenplay.
